First of, I do not yelp often but feel like I had to say something here!
This review is more for the quote by email and the after project charge invoice were not matching, There was quite a bit of a delay in getting the work done close to 2 weeks for a gas line to a gas BBQ and a fire pit. Also I should mention that the trench was already dug up so to put a gas line was not a difficult job!
1) The quote through email said to charge 1 hour for the inspection and the cost of the permit but I got charged 2 full hours of inspection ($120/hour) and another 1 hour of inspection (at reduced rate of $60/hr), plus the cost of the permit. This was on top of the actual cost of putting the gas line. I had saved the email just to know that I was not crazy to agree to being charged for all these waiting time, 1 hour is ok, not 3 hours!
2) Also that was not the final inspection, I had to ask my other contractor who did electrical work at the same time A & W Plumbing did my gas line to ask for his own inspector to do the final inspection for the gas work, and I myself had to call in to the city to report the inspection which the city worker who took my call, was surprised that the owner had to call, it was a first for her!
3) I asked if Steve can be at the final inspection then that was when the whole quote of waiting time for inspection, each hour is $120, any additional hours after 2 hours is $60/hr was sent through text, so I decided to not pay him to wait for the final inspection. My other contractor waited for me for free and it was not even his project!

Anyway, if I knew a head of time I had to pay for all the time that the contractor waiting for the inspection to be done, and it was not even done for the final inspection, I would have not hired A & W Plumbing. It was just not professional of Steve! I did get a very lengthy explanation through texts and also promise a wine gift whatever to make up for the charges. I did not care for the wine gift card but even that promise turned out to be empty as well!
Will not use A &W Plumbing again!
It is not just about the money,it is about charging more than the quote and a lofty attitude! Yikes!

Sent them a yelp requested quote [yelp says they respond within 1/hr/ yah right]. Called them and they said they don't take on little projects since they are currently working on big projects!

Response to your below message: It's fine no worries, I see you responded on this. I always contact people in my community first (LG) I figured I support my local small businesses, but I didn't get a response and when I did call you and spoke to you over the phone you mentioned you where busy with a big project at this time. It's totally okay. Thank you for your time.

Steve is the absolute best. We had a very last minute problem and he was here within 20 minutes and fixed everything immediately and for a great price too. If you ever need a great, honest service please call this guy.

Called Steve from A&W to come out to fix one thing and ended up fixing three other things that were wrong. Super happy and satisfied with his work. He's a great guy, down to earth, that knows what he's doing and very professional.
I'm glad I was able to find someone I can trust to do the right job. He will be our go to guy from now on.

Got water leak from the water heater Friday afternoon. Called a several phone call on the Yelp and A&W was not only a few answered the call, but also the one who offered the best service and price option. On the phone call, Steve asked me to take photos and send for him to check the condition of the leak immediately, which was impressive. The very next day, he came and replaced the heater even though it was Saturday. Overall very satisfied!

I had a leaky shower that one previous plumber couldn't fix. Scheduling an appointment was easy and Steve turned up on time. He explained the process and cost of the job up front and got right to work. He needed to go and get a replacement part, but wasn't gone long. In total the job took a little over an hour, but I now have a shower that doesn't leak. I'll be saving his contact information as this was a great experience.

Scoured Yelp and Angie's List to find a good plumber/contractor who could help me replace my hot water heater with a tankless system. Came across Steve at A & W Plumbing and I'm so glad that I did! Steve struck me as a really laid back guy with lots of knowledge. I think his years of experience working at San Jose Water before staking out on his own is a huge asset.

He was able to swing by on a weekend morning to check out my situation and give me a quote. I shared with him some of the conversations I'd had with other plumbers/contractors and he was pretty straight-up with me in saying that he didn't think I needed this or that. He ultimately ended up saving me over $1000 compared to some of my other options for the tankless unit that I wanted. He was able to schedule the installation for later that same week and do the job pretty quickly.

After the install, I noticed that the flow of water wasn't quite what I was expecting and told Steve. He come back out the next day to take a look and resolved what turned out to be a very minor issue in under 10 minutes. I really can't say enough good things about Steve, his knowledge, demeanor, and his very high level of customer service. I'm actually going to have him service my mom's tankless unit and possibly install a water softener system as well!
