Worst customer service. They don't keep appointments and they don't follow through on fixing problems. If you have a choice (and aren't with a warranty company) choose another vendor. - 0 stars

If I could give A & P Heating and Cooling ZERO stars that would still be too high of a review. This company came out once and the problem was still not fixed and then they no showed the second. When I called asking where the technician was the woman I spoke to was rude and spoke to me like she was doing me a favor. After explaining that I had 3 young children in my house and we had been enduring 111 degree weather she basically told me she could care less and no one would be out for 4 more days! Even though we were given a 4 hour time frame she claimed someone tried to call me 3 times to send someone out. Which was a lie and why give someone an appt if you plan on calling them and then not sending someone! Also, even though we paid a $75 service fee per our Home Warranty they reported that we never paid the service; however, we wrote a check so that lie can be proven with no problem. These people are awful and I would recommend them to no one. I had to have my home warranty send out a new contractor because I am not ok with this company treating me like garbage and having no regard for letting children boil in 111 degree weather for 4 days.

Day 1: On a 102 degree weather outside, more like 105-108 or even higher inside, when my a/c has died out they have given it no thought of priority. The sense of urgency is not present. I am waiting for a call back to see when they can come out to fix this and yesterday and today being the hotest in the hundreds I would have liked to see a better more customer concerned friendlier service. Rather, I felt like they couldn't be bothered because they have other customers to tend do and they'll get around to me. It's as if they are doing ME a favor and as if they are not getting paid! I'll return to post an update once the service is completed however so far I am not thrilled with how they are handling me as a customer with no sense of urgency during over a hundred degree weather. Very bad impression made today. DAY 2 06/10/2014 --24 hours AFTER the problem was diagnosed NO response still from this company and nothing sent to my insurance as of 11am this morning to get approvals to get going. So we have now just wasted two days. At 3.01pm now I doubt this company will be fixing my A/C today so lets see how low their customer service continues to go, in regards to response time, as we are about to hit DAY 3 tomorrow with a priority call done on Monday. I will return to update on Day 3 and so far would NOT recommend this company simply based on their response time on urgent calls.
DAY 3: Diagnosis still NOT called in! From just a broken compressor and without the diagnosis being in for 3 days they are now saying the whole unit will need to be replaced. They have been promising my home warranty company that they will get the Diagnosis in for the past day and all day today and still to no avail. HORRIBLE customer service, unprofessional. Spoke with Joe yesterday who told me they would come out and fix the unit today and today they are saying they wont' be out until Friday but yet again NO diagnosis has been turned in on an inspection done by the tech 3 days ago! i would NOT RECOMMEND this company to anyone. It is not worth the hassle, the multiple phones calls the constant follow up on the CUSTOMERS end only to get a basic answer from them. I can't imagine how they have remained in business this long. Will come to update on this expedited order that they accepted on Day 4. BTW--according to my home warrant an expedited order should have a diagnosis turned around in 24 hours. Here we are on day 3 and NO response from this company, you figure out the professionalism of this company based on just that! If they can't meet that deadline WHAT can they meet?

Our home warranty company assigned S&P for a service call to our home. The tech accurately diagnosed the problem with our central air conditioning system. It needed a new condenser/compressor unit. I indicated to the tech rep that we would like to upgrade our system to the current pure on system as our existing system used freon which is disallowed by the EPA. The tech rep called the next day with an estimate of $2922.00 to replace our old system with a new one that uses pureon. I then called the warranty company and took their cash buyout. The following day I received another call from a different individual at S&P offering to give us an estimate for a new systerm. I informed him that we already had an estimate as indicated above. His person said the original estimate was incorrect and would send me a revised one. It arrived for $6,500! Talk about unprofessional bait and switch tactics. I've reported them to our home warranty company and the Sacramento Better Bureau. Needless to say we won't be using them.

Agree with the majority of low reviews. As a property manager BEWARE OF A&P. Twice they have come out to my properties, turned the gas off & informed me I needed to install new furnaces. To the tune of $6-8,000. BE AWARE OF ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU AUTOMATICALLY YOU NEED A NEW UNIT. Had 2 companies come out after A&P and fix the problems and get the furnaces started for less than $100. As a professional or homeowner I would not use A&P. Period. There is zero integrity in this company esp. the technicians. A company that came out as a second opinion even said some wires were tampered with and he had to reconnect them to get the unit started. This furnace is on the roof so the tenant could not have done this. That leaves only A&P who then wanted me to pay for an entirely new unit instead of fixing the problem. Bottom line I now believe this is a SCAM. BEWARE only writing this review so no one has the same experience myself and my tenants have.

A&P have some things to celebrate about their initial service, but there were several incidents that caused concern. Overall, I believe A&P significantly fell short on my expectations as a home owner, but might provide sufficient service to property ""management.""

A&P answered my questions to my satisfaction, and I felt good about their intent, plan, and recommendations.

Installation of equipment from the outside looked like it was built with the house. I really appreciated that A&P was able to figure out how to use the existing gas lines, and not tap into the main from the outside with additional pipe work along the side of the house. They also installed the circuits seamlessly into my existing panel, routing the electrical power to the attic unit, and condenser.

To patch a hole where a furnace was formally mounted, a drywall contractor was provided. The drywall had one initial visit, with two additional visits the following week to patch up the holes (one vent was moved), and to texture. Overall, the work performed by the drywall contractor was impressive.

Temperatures were relatively mild in late August, but I was relatively satisfied. The office, and bedroom were warmer than the rest of the house, whereas the kitchen was too cold - indicative of an unbalanced system. Note the two rooms also have the longest length of duct. I posed this concern with A&P and inquired if volume dampers were installed. He indicated he will follow up with another scheduled visit. This issue was never addressed, and I did confirm I do not have volume dampers installed in my system. Shame.

Searching for the volume damper lever, I also observed the mechanical ties did not secure the entire circumference the flex duct. In other words, the mechanical ties (aka zip ties) were not properly placed on the take-off plenum.

Duct supports were also installed, but appeared sloppy (some unnecessary sagging and questionable distance between supports). Though the install passed the CA mandated efficiency testing, there were leaks around the take-off plenums.

In the end A&P/subcontractor/Building inspectors related to this project, visited my house on 10 different occasions. This includes attempts (some successful) to address issues noted above.

The system works; however, I do not believe they have any real pride in their work. I think if the work performed was appropriately reviewed by a site supervisor before deeming a project complete, they would have avoided a lot of workmanship issues. I've voiced the above concerns with A&P, with no real resolution. I'm not sure if I would accept any follow up service. Quite frankly, I'm tired of contractors/inspectors visiting my home for awhile.

Suffice it to say, it's possible the average home owner wouldn't even bother to review the contractor's work at the level of specificity that I did. With that said, I would hesitate to say A&P Heating & Air is my first recommendation.

Work started August 19. Permit signed off by the city on 10/15/13

I do not recommend this company. They make many promises but do not do what they say. My experience with them was fine until I found out that they did not do the work they said they would do.

HORRIBLE products/service!!! I called A&P December 2012 because my heater wasn't working. They came out December 6, 2012 and advised me that I needed a new motor and my fan blade was broken. (For the life of me I couldn't understand how the blade had gotten broken. Deep down inside I feel the technician broke the blade somehow (could have been by accident). December 12, 2012, the technician return to install the ""new"" motor and blade. Approximately, December 26-28, I called them again because the heater wasn't working appropriately again. Come to find out the ""new"" motor that was installed 22 days ago was ""bad"". It was replaced on December 28th.

Here we are July 1st and my AC isn't working. I called 2 companies to come out to see what the problem is and what do you know- it is the motor - NO GOOD AGAIN!!! We are in a EXTREMELY HEATWAVE and my house is currently 89 degrees at 8:33pm!

I am BEYOND ANGRY and FRUSTATED!!!

I have called and left a message for the ER technician to call me back and why am I not surprised no one has called me!??!?

PS - I was told by both companies who came out that was grossly overcharged for the blade. A blade runs about $25 and they changed me $250 just for the blade.

I highly recommend A&P Heating and Cooling. They're professional and did a great job.
I had purchased a new cooling system about 15 years ago from another company, and it never did keep my older 1940 home cool in the summer. I knew something wasn't right all along, but that company went out of business so I tried to bandage the problem for years. I thought because my home was old, it would never be OK. My neighbor had used A&P and suggested them to me. I now have a new heating/ac that works quietly and efficiently and I'm finally COOL. They are great!

I have had A&P install and maintain systems in two homes now, and they are fantastic. Joe Pires in particular always remembers me when I call, and they come quickly, fix any problems, and their estimates are generally accurate to what the bill is. Mr. Pires gave me his cell phone number once, and I called later in the evening planning to leave a voice mail. But he picked up from home and resolved to get someone out the next morning. Great work and nice people. Highly recommended.
