There's probably a reason A&P doesn't have any ratings on Yelp... And the reason why is they are absolutely terrible. We had them come out and install a new Trane system several years ago. The initial sales call was excellent. Todd, the owner, was informative and personable, and we felt good about our decision to use them. That's where the ""excellence"" ended. The techs did a sloppy job and the install was fraught with problems. There was notice of correction after notice of correction from the city inspectors. SMUD came out and was shocked by the quality (or lack thereof) of workmanship. After over a year of repeat visits to try and complete the job, it was only after filing a complaint with the Contractor's State Licensing Board that the job was completed and the permit finaled.
Now, four years later, the blower motor on the Trane system goes kaput. We realize this isn't A&P's fault, so we figured we'd give them another shot and let them come out and do the warranty work. Alas, it appears that they're still as sleazy as they were the first time. They told us that the blower motor needed to be replaced and that it was covered under warranty. However, they also told us it would cost $1,000 in labor to replace said motor. Doing the math, assuming they charge $100 an hour, it's going to take them 10 hours to replace a motor?
Now feeling suspicious, I called two other shops in town that deal with Trane units to get an idea if this pricing was fair. I spoke with the owner and one place, and he laughed when I told him how much A&P wanted to charge. He told me that the repair shouldn't take more than a couple of hours, and that he would charge us ~$400 bucks to send two guys out to do it. I spoke with the general manager at the second shop, and he seemed genuinely upset that A&P was trying to charge us so much for the work. He said something to the effect of ""that's what gives people in our business a bad name."" Frankly, I couldn't agree more.

Everyone here is pro. I did have to replace a unit, but Lance was helpful in making my decision, the sales team was excellent in working with me on payment, and Kristy and Darcy were cheerfully patient through a difficult tenant. Happy to recommend again after over 17 years of service.

My AC died in the middle of the night. Called during a heat wave and they were able to send David out around 4. He was personable and professional. Gave my unit the once over and diagnosed the problem. Provided me my options and and once I decided he went straight to work. I had cold air pumping through my system in no time.
I have used A & P for the last 8 years and they have been out 3 times all to my great satisfaction.
I would recommend them to anyone.

My AC died in the middle of this extra hot summer season. A friend recommended A&P. I called them and next day they were here. $900 later my AC was working again. Two days later the motor/condenser whatever thing went out and the unit was totally DONE. Lance returned and gave me the BAD news and an estimate of around $10,000 yet he said the company would apply the $900 I already spent on repairs.
I was seriously sticker shocked by this price. So I got other quotes from home depot & costco. Meanwhile is 108 degrees inside my house.
After a week and a half of ""shopping around"" I realized A&P is hands down the most competitive, proactive, prompt and honest company when it comes to AC.
Home depot quoted me $14,000 for the exact same equipment stating that I must change ALL the ducting in my house OR they would ""close me down"" LMAO!! how do you close down a residence over cooling??? pleazzzeee
Costco schedule me 3 weeks out.... no thank you....
Lance was wonderful, Chad, Dan, Jesse and the great girl in the office made this expensive purchase easy to handle.
If you need a brand new unit. I DID THE SHOPPING AROUND FOR YOU.
Save yourself some hassle and some horrible hot days+nights.
This is the company to hire.

I have debated about posting this review and finally decided that everyone should know about this company. I had been a customer with A & P heating and air company for years and just wasn't that satisfied with their customer service. The final incident made me realize how really bad and dishonest they are.
We had a roof and shed rat problem. Once we eliminated the rat problems, we asked A & P to come out and inspect the duct work etc. Yes, they did come out. The service man went up into the attic, spent time and then came down to tell me that we had major duct tears, urine and feces every where. He told me it would be about $10,000 to replace all the duct work. He then took out his phone, had to SEARCH for the pictures to show them to me. Now if he had just taken the pictures, why did he have to search for them????
Needless to say, I looked at his contract. Called another company and again, the new to me, service rep. went up into the attic. After a length of time, he came down and told me that there was absolutely NO tears, urine, or feces in any of the ducts. This tech went into great detail as to all the signs that should have been seen if there were problems. He then told me that if we had needed repairs, the cost would have been about $5,000 less then was quoted.
Of course I signed onto this company's monthly club payment plan. Bell Brothers was not only significantly less in cost, they also included plumbing inspections. We just got their first call and appointment.

I truly wish we could give a 'zero' star rating because in my case that is what A&P earned! My service adventure began last summer when my AC unit stopped blowing cold air. Numerous visits occurred over a couple of weeks until they finally chased down a bad compressor but I paid out more than $3K in service/part charges while they figured it out! Because of their repeated failed attempts to isolate the problem, they replaced numerous parts including the fan motor but when the real issue was discovered, we were comped the motor they had charged me for because who knew if the original one was bad since the problem all along was the compressor!
Now we're 10 months past their last service and the first time the AC was used this year, guess what? Blower is blowing but no cold air! Lance came out to track down the problem and as I'm standing near him at the AC unit, he reaches down, sweeps his hand under the motor and pulls out a palm of grim. 'Bad motor - oil leak', he declares; he said the bearings are failing because the fan isn't turning freely! 'You'll need a replacement!' Need I say, this is the motor they comped us less than 10 months before, oh and of course there's no warranty!
Lance charged the coolant, the battery in the thermostat is replaced and now we need a new motor. - I'm not buying it! I tell Lance I'll take my chances on the motor and will replace the entire unit once the motor goes since the system is aged.
Next day, my retired Navy Electronic Techie (E-6) hubby arrives. We take the cover off and I reach down to spin the fan that Lance claims doesn't spin freely - It spins like a top! Then hubby takes out the motor and as he flips it over we see NO evidence of an oil leak - just grim from 10 months of outside exposure and Lance's finger marks! We drive the motor over to a machine shop off Richards Blvd to have them check it out. Guess what they find?! No problem, nil, none! No leaks and the gear spins just fine, thank you very much!
So as you can see a 'Zero Star' was well earned! They got my $3K for their failure to ID the original problem after numerous visits but they won't get another dime. You need to be very sure that Lance doesn't show up at your door if you do call them for service. Kind of makes you wonder how often the grimmy palm verses oil leak story pays out!?

I contacted A & P Heating and Air when my Trane Heating unit was not operating correctly. Their repair person came out and said that I needed a new heat exchange and inducer fan-the cost was $2, 500.00 . We received a follow up call and were told it would be an additional $1,000.00 because a new mother board was needed. They then told us that it would make more sense to purchase a new system since ours was 13 years old and would likely start having other repair issues that likely would starting occurring.
We contacted another business for a second opinion. They came out took the unit apart and could not find any problems. They restarted the unit and what ever the issue was has disappeared and it is working as it had prior to A & P's visit.
No matter how nice someone seems always get a second or third opinion and hope for a good outcome-we are thrilled we did!

our 20+ year roof AC unit was ready to quit, it would work on and off and made strange noises. we were in search of a new one, we made calls and had 8 different companies come give us estimates, the verdict was the same across the board, we needed a full replacement, of the 8, only A&P and another one offered a Trane system. the estimates were a bit broad, but A&P was a bit below the middle of them all, Shannon was gracious and gave us a good gut feeling, she offered a decent price with some cool options and a couple of discounts. After discussing it with the boss lady, we decided to go with A&P even after reading some of the nutty bad reviews here. This is a big investment on our home so we were a bit apprehensive, got over it and pulled the trigger, i was at work so the wife dealt with the installation and check up and she was happy, which makes me happy. When installed, they forgot to install the wifi thermostat that Shannon had mention, emailed Shannon a couple of times about it with no response, finally decided to call her and she notified me that the email address on her card was not valid anymore, and apologized profusely. She said she wold check on the order and get back to me. She got back to me, and said that she didnt write the wifi thermostat on the order but that she would honor it as she does remember talking about it during our first encounter. We are still waiting on the installation of said thermostat, but I believe they will come through. Installation was seamless according to my wife, they changed what the needed and were done within 3 hours. Only a couple pieces of wood were left on the front yard and a 4x4 in the back yard, so clean up was almost 100%. The new system is quiet and efficient. All working well so far. Hoping to see a noticeable decrease on our electricity bill this summer with our new Trane powered system. The wifi thermostat should be a fun addition to our techie house. I will update review as things get completed.

After seeing all the negative reviews I wanted to make sure that I posted my experience for this company. We have needed to replace our complete heating and air conditioning system for a number of years. We were going to go with a different company that offered the SMUD recommended aqua chill system. Thankfully I called A and P first. Steve, the A and P engineer told me a few of the problems that the aqua chill system has. The big problem is our hard water here in Sacramento scales up the condenser lines and after just a few years that scaling causes the system to become less efficient with a probable break down within a matter of 10 years. He even sent me a 44 page analysis that Smud did on this system backing up what he was saying. The Aqua chill system also uses a lot of water not good for our drought . Steve has been with NP for about 9 months he brought over Shannon the comfort specialist and a couple of installers with him. This has dramatically improved the company's results.
Now for the install. Shannon, came in on Monday of last week gave us and analysis on what I needed to have along with what her experience suggested. Both my wife and I liked her and we made our decision to use A and P. She came up with a price and then 2 days later Steve came out to do a site survey. Then on Monday the installers Justin, Brian and Judah came and by the end of Tuesday the system was completely installed. They went way above and beyond my expectations adding new duct work where they figured it was needed and a couple of other items that would improve the system overall at no extra charge. On Tuesday afternoon a third-party inspector came to see how well the system was sealed. In the industry 15% leakage is ok for a replaced system. Ours came in at 4%! New homes are required to have no more than 5%. Ours was better than new and it rocks! With all the new people at A&P and the fact that they don't do home warranty work anymore this company is quality. I highly recommend them.!! Also take a look at the Google reviews.

UPDATED #3 below
Nothing but problems from start to finish.
A&P was contracted through our home warranty company- First American. We had one problem after another with their service. So many issues, it's easier to list them.
1. Multiple schedule mess ups- not showing up within the window and no call.
2. First visit resulted in a dumbfounded technician. He admitted the hvac wasn't properly cooling. Had no repair recommendations. Refused to make a replacement recommendation because ""we will Lose the contract with first American"". This resulted in 6 weeks of argument while my children lived in 110 degree days.
3. After the replacement finally happened, they never scheduled the state mandated inspection. We received NO notification that this needed to happen. Now (a year later) we are in trouble with the city because the inspection didn't happen and the permit is expired. A&P says it's our fault. A mountain of hassle and nothing but attitude and blame from them. *I am updating this as 3 days after posting it, I received an email letting me know that they read this review and this problem is now resolved. They continue to insist (here in their owner's comments, and in their owner's emails) that they contacted both my husband and I multiple times. I have no record of that (in email or written) and no memory of it at all. I don't believe they did. That said, it was over a year ago. I'm willing to say- who knows if they contacted me or not? I'm not interested in fighting this point. It's taken care of now. That's what matters. I will add a star to their review for their prompt attention to this matter and because I can't prove a negative (that I didn't hear from them). Hopefully this will be the end of our necessary interaction.*
4. The following summer the brand new hvac stopped working again. When we called they were blaming- saying ""maybe"" they would cover the warrantied repair depending on what was wrong (it was an 8 month old hvac!) Turns out the installer didn't appropriately weld the tubing and freon has been leaking in our backyard all year. Again- no apology. Lost yet another day waiting for repair guy to fix what they didn't do correctly.
Bottom line- run away! We've had lots of hvac repair and maintenance over the years and I would choose anyone over them.
