In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to begin a journey that brought him to many farmhouses to implement “modern” carbide lighting and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and opened a plumbing business from his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store that sold washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became the talk of the town and drew crowds of people. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to focus on his expertise—plumbing and heating products. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

Currently, the business is led by Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim spent his childhood in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems.
