In 1920, Vearl Manwill prepared his horse and wagon, filled with tools, carbide lights, and a selection of pipes to begin a journey that took him to various farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. These installations contributed to the first indoor lighting systems in history. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl bought one of the earliest television sets in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it became a sensation in the community and attracted many visitors. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to concentrate on what he excelled at—plumbing and heating supplies. The business is now managed by his grandson.

Currently, the business is led by Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim grew up immersed in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment. Currently, Jim leads a team of over 40 trained service experts focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship.
