In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to begin a journey that took him to various farmhouses to implement “modern” carbide lighting and piping. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. After some time, Vearl decided to make Salt Lake City his home and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became a sensation in the community and attracted many visitors. Over time, Vearl shifted his focus away from selling jewelry and appliances to concentrate on what he excelled at—plumbing and heating supplies. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim spent his childhood in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems. Jim now employs over 40 skilled service professionals focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship.
