In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to start a mission that brought him to many farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. Though the television only displayed black and white images, it became a sensation in the community and attracted many visitors. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

Currently, the business is led by Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim was raised in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment. Currently, Jim leads a team of over 40 trained service experts dedicated to providing outstanding customer service, dependable products, and high-quality workmanship.
