In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to embark on a journey that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, Vearl launched his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it became a sensation in the community and attracted many visitors. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The business is now managed by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim was raised in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems.
