In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to start a mission that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became a sensation in the community and drew crowds of people. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim spent his childhood in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems. Jim now employs over 40 skilled service professionals committed to ensuring the best customer service, trustworthy products, and superior craftsmanship.
