In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to embark on a journey that took him to various farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and opened a plumbing business from his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store that sold washers, dryers, and even jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it became a sensation in the community and brought in large numbers of people. Over time, Vearl shifted his focus away from selling jewelry and appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

Currently, the business is led by Jim Manwill, the third generation.
