In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to begin a journey that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to implement “modern” carbide lighting and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After some time, Vearl decided to make Salt Lake City his home and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, Vearl launched his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became a sensation in the community and brought in large numbers of people. Over time, Vearl shifted his focus away from selling jewelry and appliances to focus on his expertise—plumbing and heating products. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

Currently, the business is led by Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim grew up immersed in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment.
