In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to begin a journey that brought him to many farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it captured the attention of the town and attracted many visitors. Eventually, Vearl moved away from selling jewelry and other appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim was raised in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems. Currently, Jim leads a team of over 40 trained service experts dedicated to providing outstanding customer service, dependable products, and high-quality workmanship.
