In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to embark on a journey that took him to various farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. These installations contributed to the first indoor lighting systems in history. After some time, Vearl decided to make Salt Lake City his home and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it captured the attention of the town and attracted many visitors. Eventually, Vearl moved away from selling jewelry and other appliances to concentrate on what he excelled at—plumbing and heating supplies. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim grew up immersed in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems.
