In 1920, Vearl Manwill prepared his horse and wagon, filled with tools, carbide lights, and a selection of pipes to embark on a journey that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After some time, Vearl decided to make Salt Lake City his home and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store that sold washers, dryers, and even jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became the talk of the town and drew crowds of people. Over time, Vearl shifted his focus away from selling jewelry and appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The business is now managed by his grandson.

Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim grew up immersed in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment.
