In 1920, Vearl Manwill prepared his horse and wagon, filled with tools, carbide lights, and a selection of pipes to embark on a journey that took him to various farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After some time, Vearl decided to make Salt Lake City his home and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, Vearl launched his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. Though the television only displayed black and white images, it became a sensation in the community and attracted many visitors. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to focus on his expertise—plumbing and heating products. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim grew up immersed in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment.
