In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to embark on a journey that took him to various farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became a sensation in the community and attracted many visitors. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to concentrate on what he excelled at—plumbing and heating supplies. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim grew up immersed in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment.
