In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to begin a journey that took him to various farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became a sensation in the community and attracted many visitors. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim grew up immersed in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems. Jim now employs over 40 skilled service professionals focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship.
