Don Alton, a Portland native, was born on Christmas Day in 1942.

Don grew up in the Portland and West Linn areas, where he attended West Linn High School and graduated from Franklin High School in 1960.

Following graduation, he joined the Navy, where he worked as a pipefitter for 3.5 years.

He enrolled in Class A schools in San Diego in 1961 to learn pipefitting and plumbing.

After his honorable discharge, he took a position at Shell Chemical Co. in Torrance, California, in 1963.

During his 8.5 years at Shell Chemical as a lab technician, he pursued studies at Golden West College and Long Beach State using the GI Bill.

In 1964, he married his wife in Redondo Beach, California.

They returned to Oregon in 1971, purchasing a home in Metzger, where they have lived ever since.

The couple has three children and eight grandchildren.

In May, they celebrated 45 years of marriage.
