Born on Christmas Day in 1942, Don Alton hails from Portland.

Having lived in Portland and West Linn, he attended West Linn High School and graduated from Franklin High School in 1960.

Following graduation, he joined the Navy, where he worked as a pipefitter for 3.5 years.

He attended Class A schools in San Diego for pipefitting and plumbing in 1961.

Upon his honorable discharge, he started his career at Shell Chemical Co. in Torrance, California, in 1963.

He attended Golden West College and Long Beach State on the GI Bill while working as a lab technician at Shell Chemical for 8.5 years.

In 1964, he tied the knot with his wife in Redondo Beach, California.

They returned to Oregon in 1971, purchasing a home in Metzger, where they have lived ever since.

They are proud parents of three children and have eight grandchildren.

In May, they celebrated 45 years of marriage.
