Don Alton was born on Christmas Day in 1942 in Portland.

Having lived in Portland and West Linn, he attended West Linn High School and graduated from Franklin High School in 1960.

Following graduation, he joined the Navy, where he worked as a pipefitter for 3.5 years.

In 1961, he studied pipefitting and plumbing at Class A schools in San Diego.

After his honorable discharge, he took a position at Shell Chemical Co. in Torrance, California, in 1963.

During his 8.5 years at Shell Chemical as a lab technician, he pursued studies at Golden West College and Long Beach State using the GI Bill.

In 1964, he married his wife in Redondo Beach, California.

In 1971, they moved back to Oregon and bought a home in Metzger, where they have resided ever since.

They are proud parents of three children and have eight grandchildren.

They marked their 45th wedding anniversary in May.
