Don Alton, a Portland native, was born on Christmas Day in 1942.

He has lived in the Portland and West Linn areas, attending West Linn High School and graduating from Franklin High School in 1960.

After high school, he enlisted in the Navy, serving as a pipefitter for 3.5 years.

He enrolled in Class A schools in San Diego in 1961 to learn pipefitting and plumbing.

Upon his honorable discharge, he started his career at Shell Chemical Co. in Torrance, California, in 1963.

He attended Golden West College and Long Beach State on the GI Bill while working as a lab technician at Shell Chemical for 8.5 years.

He married his wife in Redondo Beach, California, in 1964.

They relocated to Oregon in 1971, acquiring a home in Metzger, and have been living there ever since.

The couple has three children and eight grandchildren.

In May, they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
