During my teenage years, I was lucky to be introduced to plumbing by my two uncles, each of whom owned their own plumbing and heating businesses. During that period, I didn’t recognize the value of the opportunity and considered the trade “too grimy,” but my initial dislike slowly evolved into a deep interest. I had a strong desire to learn, and before long, I progressed rapidly as a plumbing technician. As skilled as I was, I struggled to understand the underlying principles. My uncles taught me how to repair and replace, but when faced with something unusual, I felt completely lost! However, I wasn’t satisfied with this narrow knowledge, so I immersed myself in studying the science and history of plumbing! Following a conflict with a supervisor, I opted to go into business for myself, which was the first step toward realizing my dreams! Ever since, I’ve been able to share my expertise with my two younger brothers and watch them thrive as well!

During my early years, I was consistently told I was smart or gifted, which led me to believe I was meant to build something larger than life. With a single mother raising me, financial difficulties were a regular concern. I envisioned one day using my ‘talented brain’ to make our troubles disappear, but that day seemed far away. During my teenage years, I faced a tough period that caused me to lose faith in myself. I felt as though a black cloud hovered above me, and I lost sight of my goals. A few years later, my family and I faced eviction from our apartment, and I was working a minimum wage job while delivering pizzas after hours. I thought about everyone I felt I had disappointed, and I blamed myself. That experience of feeling backed into a corner with no one to save me inspired me to seek the resources to not just escape but to create a brighter future! That future is what I named Intrepid!
