The 2008 financial downturn led to my layoff. Eventually, I resolved to get my plumbing license and initiate the process of launching a small business. Securing a business loan proved impossible, so I focused on spreading the word about my services. I depended on unemployment assistance for two years, courtesy of President Obama. The unemployment funds were not enough to start my operations, so I kept networking and sharing my plans with friends and family. Despite my efforts, progress was slow. In 2011, I noticed that Lowes was looking for installers, so I seized the opportunity. Now, I have established a moderate presence in the plumbing industry, but I am still navigating the challenges. A friend in Michigan, Bill Rucha, has been instrumental in my learning. I appreciate his support and guidance. I make an effort to help him when possible. I frequently run my business alone.
