In 2008, when the stock market crashed, I found myself without a job. Eventually, I resolved to get my plumbing license and initiate the process of launching a small business. With no access to a business loan, I concentrated on getting the word out about my plumbing services. I depended on unemployment assistance for two years, courtesy of President Obama. The unemployment funds were not enough to start my operations, so I kept networking and sharing my plans with friends and family. Despite my efforts, progress was slow. In 2011, I noticed that Lowes was looking for installers, so I seized the opportunity. I have built a moderate reputation in plumbing, but I am still working to thrive. A friend in Michigan, Bill Rucha, has been instrumental in my learning. I am grateful for his assistance and mentorship. I make an effort to help him when possible. Most of the time, I operate solo.
