After struggling to find employment for months, I took a leap of faith and created my own company. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. Having grown up in Junction City and Manhattan, I know this community well. I’m 31 years old and have a wonderful 8-year-old son who means the world to me. Harry Berger established Standard Plumbing in 1923, installing our first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. After establishing our reputation, we took on our first large project, installing plumbing for the new Wareham hotel. Yes, that Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. When he returned from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company as an apprentice plumber in 1941, staying for 16 years before buying it in 1957.

Later, Paul’s sons, Rick and Dale, joined the family business. In 1958, we installed the first central air conditioning unit in the town. In January 1988, Rick acquired Dale Anderson's share of the business.

In 2004, the company transitioned to four employees. Today, three of those original employees still serve as the Board of Directors, managing the company’s daily activities.
