I’m Lawrence De Hart, the owner and operator of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. I founded this company in 2012 after facing unemployment. After struggling to find employment for months, I took a leap of faith and created my own company. With limited resources, no credit, and a strong desire to succeed, I transformed my small personal vehicle, a Chevy HHR, into my work truck and got to work. I was raised in the Junction City and Manhattan region. I’m 31 and have an 8-year-old son whom I cherish. I hold my family dear and appreciate every second I get to spend with them. Standard Plumbing was founded by Harry Berger in 1923, when we installed our inaugural coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. Indeed, that very Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. When he returned from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company as an apprentice plumber in 1941, staying for 16 years before buying it in 1957.

Paul's sons, Rick and Dale, later became part of the family business. We made history in 1958 by installing the first central air conditioning unit in the area. In January 1988, Rick acquired Dale Anderson's share of the business.

The company was sold to four employees in 2004. Three of those employees remain today and serve as the Board of Directors, overseeing daily operations.
