Wendell W. Gregg saw an opportunity! In the early 1960s, Wendell set up his first plumbing project, and thus, the business began!

The operation began in a tiny shop located at 3rd Street and Minnesota Avenue in Bemidji. The building Wendell bought was once known as Williams Hardware. Later, he acquired Kreles Mill on West 4th Street. Elvin Burnham, his son-in-law, took over in 1961. Elvin ran the company for a few years before moving to the current site at 1815 Division St.

Seeking more room, Elvin developed a more spacious structure at this site in the year 1978. By this time, Elvin's son David was a teenager and started working at the shop.

David eventually became the sole owner of Gregg's Plumbing in 2007. While this was happening, David's nephew Eric Roff worked at the shop while going to school and later secured a full-time position after graduation. Eric gained valuable insights from his grandfather and uncle during this time.

Shortly thereafter, we bought Bemidji Heating & Sheetmetal, and in 1982, we added to our main building to support our expansion. In 1987, we launched a new Plumbing & Heating showroom, enabling Hill's to offer comprehensive plumbing services. In 1988, we outgrew our 4,000 sq. ft. building at 614 Railroad St and moved to a 5-acre fenced site at 4221 Cardinal Road NW, which offered 140,000 sq. ft. of space. In the spring of 1994, Hill's relocated again, this time back into town at 750 Paul Bunyan Dr NW. This move enabled us to grow our plumbing showroom and add a complete range of gas and wood-burning fireplaces, plus a spacious retail sales floor. In 1996, we constructed a new building at 3801 Bemidji Avenue N, featuring a complete showroom with plumbing fixtures, HVAC equipment, and 22 Heat N Glo fireplace models on display.
