The tale of our company
Arthur W. Crooks, our founder, came into the world in 1885 in the town of Goshen, Indiana and transferred to Sturgis, MI during his childhood. Even though he was the valedictorian of his graduating class, he had an opportunity for higher education to Hillsdale College, yet monetary challenges prevented him from attending.
Arthur took on a teaching role in the town of Colon, Michigan and around 1907 he moved to Battle Creek to start his plumbing career.
By 1909, he took on the role of plumbing inspector in the city of Battle Creek, but went back to his plumbing work in the year 1911 when he joined Hanchett Plumbing, a business he ultimately purchased in 1912. Back then, his pay was 12.5 cents for each hour worked.
The children of Arthur, Helen, Walt, and Warren all were involved in the plumbing industry. Helen along with Warren managed the business from the mid-1950s until March in 1980. Currently, the company is owned and operated by Arthur W. Crooks II, his grandson.
