The man who started it all, Arthur W. Crooks, came into the world during the year 1885 in the city of Goshen, Indiana and relocated to Sturgis, Michigan during his childhood. Although he was the top student in his class, he had an opportunity for higher education at Hillsdale College, but financial issues prevented him from attending.
Arthur took on a teaching role in the town of Colon, Michigan and in 1907 he moved in Battle Creek to embark on his plumbing journey.
By 1909, he took on the role of plumbing inspector in Battle Creek, but returned to the plumbing trade in the year 1911 by joining Hanchett Plumbing, a business he ultimately purchased in 1912. Back then, he earned 12.5 cents for each hour worked.
Arthur's offspring, Helen, Walt, and Warren worked within the plumbing industry. Helen and Warren managed the business from the 1950s onward up until March 1980. Now, the business is managed and owned by Arthur's grandson, Arthur W. Crooks II.
