The visionary behind our company, Arthur W. Crooks, entered life in the year 1885 in the city of Goshen, Indiana and relocated to Sturgis, Michigan during his childhood. Although he was the highest achiever in his class, he received an opportunity for higher education to Hillsdale College, however financial constraints prevented him from attending.
He became an educator in Colon, Michigan and in 1907 he settled in Battle Creek to start his plumbing career.
During 1909, he was appointed as the plumbing inspector in the city of Battle Creek, yet went back to his plumbing work in 1911 by joining Hanchett Plumbing, a company he would eventually buy in 1912. At that time, his wage was 12.5 cents an hour.
The children of Arthur, Helen, Walt, and Warren all worked within the plumbing industry. Helen along with Warren operated the business from the middle of the 1950s until March of 1980. Now, the business is managed and owned by Arthur W. Crooks II, his grandson.
