In those days, most people relied on hay and grain. To save money, Alvin built a railroad siding and purchased supplies by the carload. Deliveries to residences and farms were conducted with horse-drawn wagons.

Expanding into heating and cooling, Alvin started providing firewood and ice. He acquired woodlots, constructed an ice house near Weymouth Great Pond, and delivered year-round to homes, farms, and businesses.

With the transition from wood to coal, Alvin and his son-in-law Leonard Bicknell created a state-of-the-art coal storage facility and used motorized trucks for transport.

With advancements in coal-powered systems, we brought Central Heating Systems to the South Shore.

Alvin Bicknell, Leonard's son, shifted from coal to oil by installing some of the first automatic heating systems in the state.

My great-great-grandfather made Alvin Hollis thrive by treating our customers and employees like family. Since 1871, we have upheld this principle by ensuring our South Shore neighbors remain safe and comfortable.

Both my grandfather and father felt fulfilled by the happiness of our customers with their efficiently engineered heating, cooling, and plumbing systems. Being part of the fifth generation, I feel that same satisfaction.

I started part-time as a teenager and have participated in every aspect of our operations. In 1991, I earned a BS from St. Lawrence University. Since then, I have been dedicated to Alvin Hollis full-time, specializing in Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

In 1995, I began cycling with my dad in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon, raising nearly $800,000 for Dana Farber. I am a board member of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and hold a Platinum Membership in the President's Circle at South Shore Hospital.
