In those days, most people relied on hay and grain. To save money, Alvin built a railroad siding and purchased supplies by the carload. Deliveries were made to homes and farms using horse-drawn wagons.

As he diversified into heating and cooling, Alvin offered firewood and ice. He bought woodlots, erected an ice house close to Weymouth Great Pond, and delivered consistently to homes, farms, and businesses.

When coal took the place of wood, Alvin and his son-in-law Leonard Bicknell established a modern coal storage facility and utilized motorized trucks for deliveries.

As coal systems progressed, we launched Central Heating Systems in the South Shore.

Alvin Bicknell, the son of Leonard, moved from coal to oil by implementing numerous early automatic heating systems in the state.

My great-great-grandfather ensured Alvin Hollis's success by treating our customers and staff as family. Since 1871, we have carried on this legacy by prioritizing the safety and comfort of our South Shore neighbors.

Both my grandfather and father found joy in our customers' satisfaction with their well-designed heating, cooling, and plumbing systems. As a fifth-generation owner, I share that same sense of fulfillment.

I started part-time as a teenager and have participated in every aspect of our operations. In 1991, I earned a BS from St. Lawrence University. Since then, I have enjoyed serving Alvin Hollis full-time, focusing on Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

In 1995, I took up cycling with my dad in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon, helping to raise close to $800,000 for Dana Farber. I serve on the board of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and am a Platinum Member of the President's Circle at South Shore Hospital.
