Back then, hay and grain were vital for nearly everyone. To cut costs, Alvin constructed a railroad siding and bought in bulk. Deliveries to residences and farms were conducted with horse-drawn wagons.

As he diversified into heating and cooling, Alvin offered firewood and ice. Alvin purchased woodlots, built an ice house by Weymouth Great Pond, and provided year-round deliveries to residences, farms, and businesses.

With the transition from wood to coal, Alvin and his son-in-law Leonard Bicknell created a state-of-the-art coal storage facility and used motorized trucks for transport.

As coal systems progressed, we launched Central Heating Systems in the South Shore.

Leonard's son, Alvin Bicknell, transitioned from coal to oil, installing many of the state's first automatic heating systems.

My great-great-grandfather made Alvin Hollis thrive by treating our customers and employees like family. Since 1871, we have carried on this legacy by prioritizing the safety and comfort of our South Shore neighbors.

My grandfather and father took pride in the smiles of our customers who appreciated their expertly crafted heating, cooling, and plumbing systems. As the fifth generation, I experience that same joy.

Starting as a part-time worker in my teens, I have engaged in all areas of our business. I graduated with a BS from St. Lawrence University in 1991. Since then, I have been dedicated to Alvin Hollis full-time, specializing in Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

In 1995, I took up cycling with my dad in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon, helping to raise close to $800,000 for Dana Farber. I serve on the board of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and am a Platinum Member of the President's Circle at South Shore Hospital.
