During that time, hay and grain were essential for most. To minimize expenses, Alvin established a railroad siding and acquired goods in large quantities. Deliveries were made to homes and farms using horse-drawn wagons.

Venturing into heating and cooling, Alvin began supplying firewood and ice. He acquired woodlots, constructed an ice house near Weymouth Great Pond, and delivered year-round to homes, farms, and businesses.

With the transition from wood to coal, Alvin and his son-in-law Leonard Bicknell created a state-of-the-art coal storage facility and used motorized trucks for transport.

With advancements in coal-powered systems, we brought Central Heating Systems to the South Shore.

Leonard's son, Alvin Bicknell, transitioned from coal to oil, installing many of the state's first automatic heating systems.

My great-great-grandfather ensured Alvin Hollis's success by treating our customers and staff as family. Since 1871, we have carried on this legacy by prioritizing the safety and comfort of our South Shore neighbors.

Both my grandfather and father felt fulfilled by the happiness of our customers with their efficiently engineered heating, cooling, and plumbing systems. As the fifth generation, I experience that same joy.

I started part-time as a teenager and have participated in every aspect of our operations. In 1991, I earned a BS from St. Lawrence University. Since then, I have relished my full-time role at Alvin Hollis, concentrating on Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

In 1995, I took up cycling with my dad in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon, helping to raise close to $800,000 for Dana Farber. I serve on the board of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and am a Platinum Member of the President's Circle at South Shore Hospital.
