In 1871, South Shore saw the emergence of our founder Alvin Hollis, a visionary businessman and community advocate.

Back then, hay and grain were vital for nearly everyone. To save money, Alvin built a railroad siding and purchased supplies by the carload. Deliveries were made to homes and farms using horse-drawn wagons.

As he diversified into heating and cooling, Alvin offered firewood and ice. Alvin purchased woodlots, built an ice house by Weymouth Great Pond, and provided year-round deliveries to residences, farms, and businesses.

When coal took the place of wood, Alvin and his son-in-law Leonard Bicknell established a modern coal storage facility and utilized motorized trucks for deliveries.

As coal systems progressed, we launched Central Heating Systems in the South Shore.

Leonard's son, Alvin Bicknell, transitioned from coal to oil, installing many of the state's first automatic heating systems.

My great-great-grandfather made Alvin Hollis thrive by treating our customers and employees like family. Since 1871, we have continued this tradition by keeping our South Shore neighbors safe and comfortable.

Both my grandfather and father felt fulfilled by the happiness of our customers with their efficiently engineered heating, cooling, and plumbing systems. As a fifth-generation owner, I share that same sense of fulfillment.

I began working part-time as a teenager and have been involved in every facet of our business. In 1991, I received my Bachelor of Science degree from St. Lawrence University. Since then, I have enjoyed serving Alvin Hollis full-time, focusing on Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

In 1995, I began cycling with my dad in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon, raising nearly $800,000 for Dana Farber. I am a board member of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and hold a Platinum Membership in the President's Circle at South Shore Hospital.
