Back then, hay and grain were vital for nearly everyone. To minimize expenses, Alvin established a railroad siding and acquired goods in large quantities. Horses pulled wagons for deliveries to homes and farms.

Expanding into heating and cooling, Alvin started providing firewood and ice. Alvin purchased woodlots, built an ice house by Weymouth Great Pond, and provided year-round deliveries to residences, farms, and businesses.

As coal replaced wood, Alvin and son-in-law Leonard Bicknell built a contemporary coal storage plant and employed motorized trucks for delivery.

As coal-powered systems evolved, we introduced Central Heating Systems to the South Shore.

Alvin Bicknell, Leonard's son, shifted from coal to oil by installing some of the first automatic heating systems in the state.

My great-great-grandfather built Alvin Hollis's legacy by treating our customers and team like family. Since 1871, we have carried on this legacy by prioritizing the safety and comfort of our South Shore neighbors.

Both my grandfather and father found joy in our customers' satisfaction with their well-designed heating, cooling, and plumbing systems. As a fifth-generation owner, I share that same sense of fulfillment.

I started part-time as a teenager and have participated in every aspect of our operations. I graduated with a BS from St. Lawrence University in 1991. Since then, I have been dedicated to Alvin Hollis full-time, specializing in Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

In 1995, I started cycling alongside my dad in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon, together raising almost $800,000 for Dana Farber. I serve on the board of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and am a Platinum Member of the President's Circle at South Shore Hospital.
