Back then, hay and grain were vital for nearly everyone. To save money, Alvin built a railroad siding and purchased supplies by the carload. Deliveries to residences and farms were conducted with horse-drawn wagons.

Venturing into heating and cooling, Alvin began supplying firewood and ice. He bought woodlots, erected an ice house close to Weymouth Great Pond, and delivered consistently to homes, farms, and businesses.

With the transition from wood to coal, Alvin and his son-in-law Leonard Bicknell created a state-of-the-art coal storage facility and used motorized trucks for transport.

As coal-powered systems evolved, we introduced Central Heating Systems to the South Shore.

Leonard's son, Alvin Bicknell, transitioned from coal to oil, installing many of the state's first automatic heating systems.

Starting as a part-time worker in my teens, I have engaged in all areas of our business. In 1991, I received my Bachelor of Science degree from St. Lawrence University. Since then, I have enjoyed serving Alvin Hollis full-time, focusing on Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

In 1995, I began cycling with my dad in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon, raising nearly $800,000 for Dana Farber. I serve on the board of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and am a Platinum Member of the President's Circle at South Shore Hospital.
