South Shore 1871: our founder Alvin Hollis was both a pioneering entrepreneur and a dedicated community member.

In those days, most people relied on hay and grain. To minimize expenses, Alvin established a railroad siding and acquired goods in large quantities. Deliveries were made to homes and farms using horse-drawn wagons.

Venturing into heating and cooling, Alvin began supplying firewood and ice. He bought woodlots, erected an ice house close to Weymouth Great Pond, and delivered consistently to homes, farms, and businesses.

As coal replaced wood, Alvin and son-in-law Leonard Bicknell built a contemporary coal storage plant and employed motorized trucks for delivery.

With advancements in coal-powered systems, we brought Central Heating Systems to the South Shore.

Alvin Bicknell, Leonard's son, shifted from coal to oil by installing some of the first automatic heating systems in the state.

My great-great-grandfather built Alvin Hollis's legacy by treating our customers and team like family. Since 1871, we have continued this tradition by keeping our South Shore neighbors safe and comfortable.

My grandfather and father took pride in the smiles of our customers who appreciated their expertly crafted heating, cooling, and plumbing systems. As a fifth-generation owner, I share that same sense of fulfillment.

I started part-time as a teenager and have participated in every aspect of our operations. In 1991, I earned a BS from St. Lawrence University. Since then, I have been dedicated to Alvin Hollis full-time, specializing in Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

In 1995, I took up cycling with my dad in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon, helping to raise close to $800,000 for Dana Farber. I sit on the board of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and am proud to be a Platinum Member of the President's Circle at South Shore Hospital.
