In 1978, John E. Shekell launched the company, starting with just one van focused on heating and air conditioning. He later expanded into plumbing and electrical services. In the 1980s, John Shekell advanced the company by acquiring the service center of George Koch Sons. This move established Shekell as the leading HVAC service company in the Tri-State region. Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. This new subsidiary enhanced Shekell's design capabilities, solidifying its presence in the area. An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. After eight years as a service technician, he earned an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

Following his service technician role, he moved into residential HVAC sales. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. He pursued his education at Oakland City University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

Kevin was appointed Vice President of Construction in 2004. In December 2006, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

He has been happily married for 16 years and is a father of two. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.

Bayer's Plumbing, Inc. began in 1983 and became incorporated in 1984. Joe and Maria Bayer, along with Joe's brother Mike, started the company. The business started in the residence of Joe and Maria. The garage housed the inventory, while the office was arranged in the children's old playroom.

In 1985, they moved to a new location. While keeping the office at home, they transferred the inventory to a local warehouse. They added three more vans and brought on a secretary in January 1987. The company made a significant move in May 1987 to a 6,000 sq ft space that included a showroom, office, and shop for eight vans.

By 1991, the company experienced significant growth and outgrew its original shop. The company constructed a new 30,000 sq ft building and moved to 7944 Bell Oaks Dr in Newburgh, its current location.
