Founded in 1978 by John E. Shekell, the company started as a small heating and air conditioning operation with one van. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. In the '80s, John Shekell took a significant step by acquiring the service center from George Koch Sons. With this purchase, Shekell became the foremost HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. Shekell expanded from service and installations into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. This addition provided Shekell with full design capabilities, reinforcing its position in the local market. Reflecting on the journey, John Shekell attributes the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to loyal customers, dedicated employees, extensive training, and a strong focus on safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After serving as a technician, he shifted to residential HVAC sales. He then expanded his expertise to include commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimating and project management. He pursued his education at Oakland City University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. He finished his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

Kevin has been married for 16 years and has two children. From 2004 to 2006, he held the position of president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter. In January 2009, Kevin was appointed President of J.E. Shekell.
