Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After serving as a technician, he shifted to residential HVAC sales. He then expanded his expertise to include commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimating and project management. He pursued his education at Oakland City University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. In December 2006, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

Kevin has been married for 16 years and has two children. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.
