Founded in 1978 by John E. Shekell, the company started as a small heating and air conditioning operation with one van. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. During the 1980s, John Shekell propelled the company forward by purchasing George Koch Sons' service center. This move established Shekell as the leading HVAC service company in the Tri-State region. From service and new installations, Shekell ventured into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. This addition provided Shekell with full design capabilities, reinforcing its position in the local market. Looking back, John Shekell credits the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to his loyal customers, committed employees, thorough training, and prioritizing safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. Kevin started working at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After serving as a technician, he shifted to residential HVAC sales. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. He pursued his education at Oakland City University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. He completed his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

For 16 years, he has been married and is the proud parent of two children. From 2004 to 2006, he held the position of president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter. In January 2009, Kevin was appointed President of J.E. Shekell.
