Founded in 1978 by John E. Shekell, the company started as a small heating and air conditioning operation with one van. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. In the 1980s, John Shekell advanced the company by acquiring the service center of George Koch Sons. This acquisition positioned Shekell as the largest HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. Shekell expanded from service and installations into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. Shekell expanded further in 2000 by acquiring WSC Associates, a distinguished engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. This new subsidiary enhanced Shekell's design capabilities, solidifying its presence in the area. Reflecting on the journey, John Shekell attributes the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to loyal customers, dedicated employees, extensive training, and a strong focus on safety.

Kevin, a native of Evansville, Indiana, graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. Kevin started working at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After his time as a service technician, he transitioned to a residential HVAC sales role. Kevin later added commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager to his skill set. At Oakland City University, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

Kevin was appointed Vice President of Construction in 2004. In December 2006, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

Kevin has been married for 16 years and has two children. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. Kevin took on the role of President of J.E. Shekell in January 2009.
