In 1978, John E. Shekell launched the company, starting with just one van focused on heating and air conditioning. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. In the '80s, John Shekell took a significant step by acquiring the service center from George Koch Sons. This acquisition positioned Shekell as the largest HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. From service and new installations, Shekell ventured into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell acquired WSC Associates, a well-respected engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. Reflecting on the journey, John Shekell attributes the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to loyal customers, dedicated employees, extensive training, and a strong focus on safety.

Kevin, a native of Evansville, Indiana, graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. He began his career at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After his time as a service technician, he transitioned to a residential HVAC sales role. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. At Oakland City University, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. He finished his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

Kevin has been married for 16 years and has two children. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.
