John E. Shekell established the company in 1978, beginning with a single van for heating and air conditioning services. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. In the '80s, John Shekell took a significant step by acquiring the service center from George Koch Sons. This acquisition positioned Shekell as the largest HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. Shekell expanded further in 2000 by acquiring WSC Associates, a distinguished engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. Reflecting on the journey, John Shekell attributes the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to loyal customers, dedicated employees, extensive training, and a strong focus on safety.

Kevin, a native of Evansville, Indiana, graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. Kevin started working at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. After eight years as a service technician, he earned an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After his time as a service technician, he transitioned to a residential HVAC sales role. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. At Oakland City University, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. In December 2006, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

For 16 years, he has been married and is the proud parent of two children. He was the president of the Evansville SMACNA chapter between 2004 and 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.
