In 1950, Dick Ray, who had recently served as the commanding officer of a Navy LCI, launched his plumbing business. During the war, he attended the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. His family immigrated to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and has remained ever since. His uncles played a role in laying the first sewer in Kansas City.

Starting with only a pair of pipe wrenches, he launched his plumbing business. Lacking a truck, he utilized the family car for his initial service calls. He used a trailer to haul pipes and heavy fittings. His wife took care of phone calls at home while also raising their three kids. She answered service calls, and Dick Ray followed up on them by phone to handle the work. Even in those times, they provided round-the-clock service.

The family that came from England to Kansas City and assisted in laying the first sewer six generations ago continues to flourish. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Dick Ray was studying at the University of Washington in Seattle. He moved from Seattle to the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, graduating as an Ensign.

Following his service in the South Pacific, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where the ship was decommissioned after the war.

In 1949, three years later, Dick returned to his hometown of Kansas City, where he started his plumbing business and began a family with his new bride, Shirley. Unable to afford a truck, he started his business using the family Chevy for service calls, pulling an equipment trailer. Dick took on all the labor by himself, as he had no assistants. While raising their three children, Shirley answered the phone at their home in Merriam. She regularly handled service calls and passed the work orders to Dick.

Even in those early days, they provided 24-hour service. The phone rang next to Dick's bed, and he was always prepared to answer.

Mike Crosby, a Kansas City native, graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1980. Mike and his wife, Sandy were high school sweethearts. Inspired by his father-in-law, a plumber, Mike developed an interest in the trade. After completing four years of education at Plumbers Local 8, Mike received his Journeyman's certification and later obtained his Master Plumber's License.

He completed an apprenticeship at A.D. Jacobson focusing on commercial plumbing. He then moved into residential plumbing, gaining extensive experience in the local sector. After a year working as a Maintenance Supervisor at KU Medical Center, the opportunity arose for Mike to create his own business.
