I’m Lawrence De Hart, the owner and operator of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. In 2012, I established this company after I was laid off from my plumbing job at Fort Riley. With no job prospects after months of searching, I made the decision to start my own business. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. Now, De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling is recognized as the leading company in Manhattan and Junction City.

Having grown up in Junction City and Manhattan, I know this community well. I’m 31 years old and have a wonderful 8-year-old son who means the world to me. Harry Berger established Standard Plumbing in 1923, installing our first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. That’s right, the same Wareham hotel!

During the tough times of the Depression and Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger went to Alaska to search for gold, leaving his wife to oversee operations. Upon returning from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company in 1941 as an apprentice plumber and worked there for 16 years before acquiring it in 1957.

Later, Paul’s sons, Rick and Dale, joined the family business. In 1958, we were proud to install the town's first central air conditioning unit. In January 1988, Rick acquired Dale Anderson's share of the business.

In 2004, the company transitioned to four employees. Three of those employees continue to serve on the Board of Directors and supervise the company’s operations.
