I am Lawrence De Hart, the proud owner of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. In 2012, I established this company after I was laid off from my plumbing job at Fort Riley. After struggling to find employment for months, I took a leap of faith and created my own company. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. I grew up in the Junction City/Manhattan area. I’m 31 and have an 8-year-old son whom I cherish. I love my family deeply and treasure every moment with them. In 1923, Harry Berger founded Standard Plumbing, installing the first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. Once our name was established, we landed our first significant job, which was the plumbing installation for the new Wareham hotel. Yes, that Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. When he returned from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company as an apprentice plumber in 1941, staying for 16 years before buying it in 1957.

Rick and Dale, Paul’s sons, eventually entered the family business. We made history in 1958 by installing the first central air conditioning unit in the area. In January 1988, Rick acquired Dale Anderson's share of the business.

The company was sold to four employees in 2004. Today, three of those original employees still serve as the Board of Directors, managing the company’s daily activities.
