After months of searching for work without success, I decided to take a bold step and launch my own venture. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. In 1923, Harry Berger founded Standard Plumbing, installing the first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. Once our name was established, we landed our first significant job, which was the plumbing installation for the new Wareham hotel. Yes, that Wareham hotel!

During the tough times of the Depression and Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger went to Alaska to search for gold, leaving his wife to oversee operations. Upon returning from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company in 1941 as an apprentice plumber and worked there for 16 years before acquiring it in 1957.

Later, Paul’s sons, Rick and Dale, joined the family business. In 1958, we were proud to install the town's first central air conditioning unit. In January 1988, Rick acquired Dale Anderson's share of the business.

In 2004, four employees took ownership of the company. Three of those employees continue to serve on the Board of Directors and supervise the company’s operations.
