With no job prospects after months of searching, I made the decision to start my own business. With limited resources, no credit, and a strong desire to succeed, I transformed my small personal vehicle, a Chevy HHR, into my work truck and got to work. Now, De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling is recognized as the leading company in Manhattan and Junction City.

Having grown up in Junction City and Manhattan, I know this community well. At 31 years old, I cherish my time with my 8-year-old son. Standard Plumbing was founded by Harry Berger in 1923, when we installed our inaugural coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. Yes, that Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. After his return from Alaska, Paul Anderson became an apprentice plumber with the company in 1941, eventually working there for 16 years before purchasing it in 1957.

Later, Paul’s sons, Rick and Dale, joined the family business. In 1958, we were proud to install the town's first central air conditioning unit. In January 1988, Rick purchased Dale Anderson's portion of the company.

In 2004, the company transitioned to four employees. Three of those employees remain today and serve as the Board of Directors, overseeing daily operations. Since 1923, Standard Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning has been proudly operating in the Manhattan, KS area. Our success hinges on one simple principle: customer satisfaction.
