I’m Lawrence De Hart, the owner and operator of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. I started this business in 2012 after losing my job at Fort Riley. With no job prospects after months of searching, I made the decision to start my own business. With limited resources, no credit, and a strong desire to succeed, I transformed my small personal vehicle, a Chevy HHR, into my work truck and got to work. In 1923, Harry Berger founded Standard Plumbing, installing the first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. Indeed, that very Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. Upon returning from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company in 1941 as an apprentice plumber and worked there for 16 years before acquiring it in 1957.

Paul's sons, Rick and Dale, later became part of the family business. In 1958, we were proud to install the town's first central air conditioning unit. In January 1988, Rick purchased Dale Anderson's portion of the company.

In 2004, four employees took ownership of the company. Three of those employees continue to serve on the Board of Directors and supervise the company’s operations.
