I’m Lawrence De Hart, the owner and operator of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. In 2012, I established this company after I was laid off from my plumbing job at Fort Riley. After struggling to find employment for months, I took a leap of faith and created my own company. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. Now, De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling is recognized as the leading company in Manhattan and Junction City.

Having grown up in Junction City and Manhattan, I know this community well. I’m 31 and have an 8-year-old son whom I cherish. I love my family deeply and treasure every moment with them. Harry Berger established Standard Plumbing in 1923, installing our first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. That’s right, the same Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. After his return from Alaska, Paul Anderson became an apprentice plumber with the company in 1941, eventually working there for 16 years before purchasing it in 1957.

Rick and Dale, Paul’s sons, eventually entered the family business. In 1958, we installed the first central air conditioning unit in the town. In January 1988, Rick purchased Dale Anderson's portion of the company.

In 2004, the company transitioned to four employees. Three of those employees continue to serve on the Board of Directors and supervise the company’s operations.
