In 1987, Daryl Welker started Poor John's Plumbing. He aimed to improve his family's living conditions. He met his future wife in 1995, who joined him as a business partner. Together, they managed the company until 2014. Currently, their son and nephew are at the helm, upholding the family tradition.

Bob's Rooter Service was founded was established by Bob Trowbridge on November 3rd, 2000. Bob's son Brett began assisting him during the summer and after school initially and now works full-time at Bob's Rooter. Bob's path into the construction industry initiated when his parents purchased a hardware store in the historic Northeast area of Kansas City located at St John and Hardesty for a period of ten years. The hardware store was put on the market in 1988 after Bob's parents chose to retire. Bob then became a branch manager with Evergreen Lawn Care located in Grandview, MO, which was later acquired by Barefoot Lawn, prompting Bob to look for new work yet again. During 1991, Bob joined as the shop manager with Reddi Services at their old location in Turner, Kansas. Eventually, Bob transitioned to the field for Reddi Services as a service technician and continued with them up until spring 2000 when he lost both his parents. Bob decided to start his own business and left Reddi Root'r.
