My name is Lawrence De Hart, and I run De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. In 2012, I established this company after I was laid off from my plumbing job at Fort Riley. After struggling to find employment for months, I took a leap of faith and created my own company. With limited resources, no credit, and a strong desire to succeed, I transformed my small personal vehicle, a Chevy HHR, into my work truck and got to work. In 1923, Harry Berger founded Standard Plumbing, installing the first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. Indeed, that very Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. After his return from Alaska, Paul Anderson became an apprentice plumber with the company in 1941, eventually working there for 16 years before purchasing it in 1957.

Rick and Dale, Paul’s sons, eventually entered the family business. In 1958, we installed the first central air conditioning unit in the town. Rick bought out Dale Anderson's interest in the business in January 1988.

In 2004, four employees took ownership of the company. Today, three of those original employees still serve as the Board of Directors, managing the company’s daily activities.
